What is double elimination?
In double elimination, a team must lose twice before being eliminated. After a first loss, the team drops from the winners bracket into the losers bracket and still has a path to the championship.
This format is popular in competitive gaming and higher-stakes tournaments because one bad first-round draw does not end a strong team immediately. The tradeoff is time: double elimination usually requires about twice as many matches as single elimination.
